About Us
Marquita Flowers
FounderMarquita Flowers is an independent curator, gallerist and entrepreneur. Born in the Bronx during the 90’s, Marquita learned from many Black artists who imparted the gift of collective thinking, action and art making. Building within supportive ecosystems was the most crucial component to their work and is now the guiding value system Marquita aims to uphold within her curatorial practice.
Her interests traverse many fields, she is currently researching Marcus Garvey’s influence on artists during the Harlem Renaissance, postpartum care practices established in the Antebellum South, and is always asking critical questions pertaining to the creative labor of Black people under capitalism.
Marquita has curated exhibitions at NXTHVN, The Campus, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, AC Institute and Shoot The Lobster New York. In addition, she has organized numerous public programs working with artists such as LaToya Ruby Frazier, Rob Pruitt, Ash Arder and Jesus Hilario-Reyes.
Marquita has several degrees from academic institutions but nothing has contributed to her growth more than becoming a mother. Being in community, on the dance floor and in ephemeral spaces of Black imagination is where she thrives.
